Saint Emilion is a famous medieval village of the Gironde County.

Saint Emilion is a World Heritage UNESCO protected site as Cultural Landscape for its medieval and preserved architecture and buildings.

A monk that was retiring on the actual location of Saint Emilion and that achieved several miracles is at the origin of this village. He arrived there during the 13th century.

Saint Emilion is also remarkable for its monuments (keep, the Cordeliers Chapel and Cloister of the 13th century, the Collégiale Church of the 11th century and its wonderful classified organ, the fortified wall and 7 entrance doors of the 12th century, the hermitage cave.) but also for its underground features that is largely used as cellars and wine storehouse; more than 70 Hectares of tunnels and man made caves have been noticed there!!

The overall village is built with limestone blocs of ochre colour coming from direct underground resources and close hill of the Dordogne River banks.

Of course Saint Emilion is also world wide famous for its vine! You can visit, taste in several properties this wine and learn how it is bred. Visits are organised from the village itself.
